About Me

Someone who fell in love with the natural world early on and has been smitten ever since. A blade of grass, a mighty mountain, a tiny raindrop, a roaring waterfall, all fill me with awe and wonder. Nature feels home, filled with warmth and love. It pains my heart to see this home being ravaged. This blog is an effort to find tweaks in modern living to preserve the sanctity of this home. I sincerely hope that you join me in this green karmic journey.

Saving On Clingfilm One Watermelon At A Time

Summers are here and so are gorgeous fruits like watermelons and muskmelons.

Since these melons can be big, particularly watermelon, our family of three is not able to finish them at one go. I have to store the half-cut melon in the refrigerator. It generally lies just like that in the fridge and when I cut it the second time, I have to sacrifice the oxidized surface. I was looking for a way in which it could be stored without a cling film. Cling film generally gets thrown after one use. I tried reusing it once, but well, it was too clingy and messy to be dried and reused. Anyway, I hardly buy clingfilm.

I also did not want to cube the remaining fruit as it doesn't taste the same later. Suddenly, it occurred to me one fine morning. (I tell you, mornings are magical for me. My thoughts run around like wild horses).

Ziploc! I could store the half-cut melon in a Ziploc and it would stay fresh. I can rinse, dry and reuse the Ziploc multiple times. Muskmelons, papayas, all can be stored in a similar fashion. However, I wouldn't recommend storing the half-cut piece for more than one day.

I have been implementing the idea and it has worked for me.
What say? If you have a better idea, do share with me. Always on a lookout for a totally plastic-free, workable idea.
